Table Talk Pies’ new president looking ahead to the future

WORCESTER, Mass. – Isaac Long took over as president of Table Talk Pies in June and is excited and optimistic about the future of the Worcester pie manufacturing company.

“I’m not sure there’s really anyone else who can really give us a run for our money,” Long said.

After battling inflation all of last year, Long said all eyes are on the pies of the future. Inside their headquarters in Worcester, dozens of employees are hard at work handling dough and filling, making sure each pie is just perfect.

“We are so efficient in our production that relative to our competition, I’m not sure there is another pie company in America that can actually keep up with what we have,” Long said.

At the Worcester facility alone, each line is pumping out about 50,000 pies a day, making for about one million pies a week. But after 99 years of pie, how do you keep customers, coming back for more? Long said its something they are working on.

Table Talk names new president as Kokkinis becomes chairman

Worcester food manufacturer Table Talk Pies has named Isaac Long as its new president, effective immediately. He takes over for Harry Kokkinis, a third-generation leader of the company who will become executive chairman.

Table Talk was founded in 1924 by Kokkinis’s maternal grandfather and his business partner, both Greek immigrants.

Long has been in a relationship with Table Talk as a strategic advisor for several months, according to a Tuesday release from the company. He was most recently an operating partner at Truck 9 Partners, a private equity and venture capital firm in Boston. Prior to Truck 9, he led a family-owned agricultural business through a financial turnaround as CEO and CFO, according to the press release.

Long is a former aviator with the U.S. Navy and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School after leaving military service. His bachelor’s degree, from North Dakota State University, is in speech communication, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Kokkinis will remain in an advisory role as executive chairman of the board of directors, according to the press release.

Table Talk Pies is debuting two specialty WooSox pies just in time for Polar Park’s opening day.

The iconic Worcester company announced the two new pies Tuesday morning just hours before the Worcester Red Sox’s first-ever home game at Polar Park at 3:05 p.m.

The flavors, Boston Crème Woo-Pie and Strawberry Shortcake Woo-Pie, will be sold exclusively at The Pie Store on Green Street.

Worcester bets on new ballpark to spur development (Boston Business Journal)

Tuesday will be the first game for the Worcester Red Sox in their new home city. For Worcester, whether the team’s move is a win will take far longer to play out.

The brand new city-owned ballpark, Polar Park, was built not so much only with the idea of drawing the top affiliate of the Boston Red Sox to town as it was an ambitious play: That Worcester’s Canal District neighborhood and the rest of the city would benefit from new interest from developers wanting to build apartments, restaurants and other space next to the stadium.

Worcester has gone all-in on the stadium.

The Worcester City Council voted in 2017 to direct City Manager Edward Augustus to do all in his power to bring to Worcester the then-Pawtucket Red Sox, who were looking for a new stadium to replace the dated McCoy Stadium. Efforts from the PawSox to build a new facility in Pawtucket or next-door Providence received cool receptions from a state that was still reeling from a failed investment in former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s video game company.

In August 2018, the PawSox and Worcester city officials, along with Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, unveiled their plans: a $101 million ballpark to be built on a sloped parking lot that stood over a contaminated former industrial site. The team would begin play in April 2021.

The project has not gone entirely smoothly since.

The team’s debut was pushed back a month because of the coronavirus pandemic. From the initial cost, nearly $60 million in additional costs have been incurred, largely due to where officials chose to build. The site required removing contaminated soil and a culvert, and acquiring adjacent parcels, knocking down buildings and relocating businesses was far costlier than first thought.

As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, Table Talk Pies in Worcester is giving away free snack-size pies to educators

Table Talk Pies in Worcester is updating the tradition of bringing a teacher an apple before class. Instead, this week, the company’s Pie Store on Green Street is offering free pies to teachers.

The promotion is part of Teacher Appreciation Week and runs through Friday.

Teachers can stop by the Pie Store at 153 Green St. and receive a free 4-inch snack pie of their choice.

The Pie Store is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the rest of this week.

Harry Kokkinis is the third-generation owner of Table Talk Pies, which has been baking pies in Kelley Square since 1942. But Kokkinis says it’s time for a change. Table Talk Pies is moving out of Kelley Square and over to their new facility in the summer of 2021.

Table Talk Pie Store Celebrates 4 Years with 2 New Pie Flavors

WORCESTER – The Table Talk Pie Store in Worcester’s Canal District is celebrating their four-year anniversary all week long.

The week is highlighted by the release of two new pie flavors, available beginning Tuesday, January 26 at the Pie Store only.

The new pies – Southern Buttermilk Pie and Blueberry Lemon Pie — are available only until Saturday, January 30 [while they last]. The pies are just 50¢ each.

The Pie Store is open for in-store shopping and pre-order and curbside pick-up from Tuesday to Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
